There have been a few extremely uncommon cases of engines falling off from an airplane.
In the 1980s, a pilot flying a 737-200 out of Chicago informed the air traffic controllers that they would have to turn back because they had “lost an engine.”
The controller replied, “Yes sir, it is in a field just off the end of the runway.”
They came back to make a safe landing. None of the modern airplanes have ever been reported to have this issue, to my knowledge.
